Getting Fit With Wii

Video games have long been the blame for obese and lazy kids, (some adults too.) However, Nintendo has recently introduced a new gaming system which guarantees even the most seasoned of couch potatoes to get in a good workout. Unlike other gaming consoles which rely solely on hand held controls and lots of finger and thumb action, Wii gets the whole body into the action.

Using a wireless hand held controller, Wii incorporates the full range of motion of arms. While games such as bowling and golf may not necessarily get in a good cardio workout, games such as tennis and boxing can raise the level of the heart rate to make a difference.

Aside from cardio-based sporting games, Wii Fit has other features such as a balance board which helps to calculate BMI. This does not necessarily give an accurate measurement as it is unable to calculate lean muscle mass, but it offers a good “guesstimate.” Wii Fit also offers activities such as yoga and Hoola Hoop to get the heart pumping.

Substituting regular physical activity with video games is not a solution to long term health, but it is better than no activity, especially for those couch potatoes. There are even success stories about how Wii fit helped people lose weight.

As earlier mentioned, Wii Fit is not a substitute for regular exercise, but it has been a great motivator to help people take charge of their health practices. For many people, Wii Fit has been a gateway to better taking care of themselves. Wii Fit has helped people get serious about weight loss and the best diet pills. One case in particular helped a woman lose pregnancy weight by combing Wii Fit workouts with appetite suppressing hoodia.

While Wii isn’t for everyone, it shows that your workout is certainly what you make it, and that starting even with a little activity is better than none.
